Project Challenge
Patent translation attaches supreme importance to precision, legal logic and format standardization, and tiny wording deviations may lead to patent rejection or invalidation. Conventional translation teams face several prominent difficulties. Machine translation often distorts technical logic and confuses similar specialized nouns, bringing hidden intellectual property risks. Hong Kong and Taiwan intellectual property bureaus adopt different patent writing standards and professional glossaries; simple traditional character conversion generates unqualified documents that cannot pass official submission audits. Besides, serial patent applications are submitted intensively in batches, requiring high-speed delivery while maintaining extreme accuracy, and claim texts have strict length and structural limits which greatly restrict rewriting space.

Our Solution & Strength
LocTranslation assembled a professional patent localization team consisting of native Traditional Chinese linguists, technical specialists in various industries and legal proofreaders familiar with regional IP laws. We compiled two independent patent writing manuals for Hong Kong and Taiwan respectively, completely filtering inappropriate cross-regional expressions and flawed machine translation content.

We carried out a triple verification mechanism for all patent files: initial MTPE polishing, technical specialist professional checking, and legal patent editor final review. For core claim clauses, we forbid arbitrary paraphrasing and only optimize sentence fluency on the premise of locking technical scope and legal meaning. Dedicated term banks are synchronously updated in real time for each cooperative enterprise, to guarantee serial patents maintain consistent technical naming for years. For text with format restrictions, editors refine sentences repeatedly to satisfy official layout rules without changing the core protection scope of patents.
